and make the ordinary extraordinary

Perfection isn’t what you need

I was waiting until I got it all right, until I got better, a better writer, husband, father, friend, person, waiting for it all to come together.

But here’s the thing: I’m not perfect, in fact I will never be.

If I wait around to get it all entirely composed nothing’s going to happen. If I wait until I’m fully complete I’ll be waiting eternally. It’s a nice thought that in the future it’ll all perfect itself, but that’s not how it works, it’s not the way it’s meant to be.

Rather, forgiveness is the key. You have to forgive yourself, forgive yourself for being human and at times for getting it wrong. And then get on with it, the work that you’re here to do.

If you’re waiting for perfection then you’re never going to show. You’ll hide in the background waiting for that perfect day.

So get on with it, workout what it is that you’re here to do, forgive yourself for being flawed, and do it anyway.

It’s a process, that’s life; you’re enough as you are, you’ll learn like crazy while on the run. Because that’s the only way anything worthwhile is ever going to get done.
