and make the ordinary extraordinary

Don’t follow the rules

They told us: “Follow the rules and you’ll be okay. Send us your resume and we’ll add it to the stack. Fill out this form and we’ll get back to you. Do what you’re told and all will be okay.” Except it won’t. They lied! It wasn’t deliberate or malicious; they were just doing what they were told to do.

But if you want to make it, and do the stuff that turns you on, then you’re going to have to do what they didn’t tell you to do. All the best work is unknown and difficult and scary, and no one can tell you what’s next because they haven’t got a clue.

They’re waiting for you to show them the way.

It’s a paradox. Only when you’re out on an edge doing what others can’t or are unwilling to do are you ever really safe. Because “you” are what we need, doing the work that only YOU can do.
